Strata Networks members gathered on June 4th for the cooperative’s Annual Meeting, where they received updates on the organization’s financial performance, strategic initiatives, and future direction. The meeting was a celebration of 75 years of serving members and communities throughout the Uintah Basin.
The evening began with a customer appreciation event recognizing those who have supported the cooperative throughout its 75-year history. Attendees enjoyed a barbecue dinner with a dirty soda bar featuring custom Strata-themed drinks, received member gifts, and participated in a photo booth. The event provided an opportunity for members to connect with friends, neighbors, and employees while celebrating the cooperative’s legacy of service to the region.
Following the customer appreciation event, members convened for the business meeting, where election results were announced for the Board of Directors seats. Kelly Dastrup, who ran unopposed, was elected to another term representing the Vernal District. JoAnn Winn was
re-appointed to serve the Randlett District, while Melissa Hughes was elected to represent the Tabiona District, prevailing over incumbent Max Fabrizio.
Members heard from Secretary/Treasurer Dana Shepard who reported that the cooperative remains in a strong financial position, generating over $115 million in revenue in 2025, with approximately one third of that coming from outside the Basin. Shepard also celebrated that, by having strong and diversified revenue streams, Strata has been able to increase internet speeds without raising customer rates for over two decades. Chief Financial Officer Jason McKee echoed a similar sentiment, providing additional insight into the cooperative’s financial performance.
Board President Kelly Dastrup reflected on the company’s history and how technology has changed over time, assuring the audience that Strata is working hard to bring the best service possible to its members. This message was reinforced by comments from Dave Ryan, Strata’s Chief Operations Officer, who shared that the company has and continues to invest millions of dollars in the Uintah Basin to upgrade and expand service to even the most remote locations.
While serving members throughout the Uintah Basin remains a primary focus, Vice President of Business Development Tyler Rasmussen spoke about the company’s efforts to pursue strategic growth opportunities through new partnerships and expansion initiatives. These efforts generate additional revenue, reduce reliance on member-generated revenue alone, and help ensure the cooperative can continue investing in its network and communities for years to come.
Growth through diversification was another key theme of the meeting. Attorney Beau Hancock and Kirk Bostick, Vice President of Operations of Spectra, a Strata subsidiary, provided updates on the continued development of the company’s subsidiary operations and the value they bring to the cooperative.
Supporting that growth requires a strong workforce. Vice President of Human Resources Meagin Mohar shared that Strata and its subsidiary companies collectively employ nearly 350 people. She praised the many teams that contribute to the organization’s success, describing employees as Strata’s “biggest asset.”
Members also heard from Vice President of Technology Brent Simmons, who discussed the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and how Strata is thoughtfully incorporating the technology to enhance customer experiences, improve operational efficiency, and support employees in delivering exceptional service.
Manager Todd concluded his report by sharing that Strata is a strong advocate for rural broadband and that they remain engaged with national associations that fight on behalf of the company, its customers, and the community.
“In all, the most important thing is that we provide to you, the rural communities, what you need and want, especially for the rising generation and developing technologies,” said CEO/General Manager Bruce Todd. “I hope that you feel that Strata is doing that to your benefit.”
