Strata Networks has become one of the first regional wireless carriers in the United States to complete the deployment of Rich Communication Services (RCS), bringing a significantly enhanced messaging experience to its wireless subscribers.
This enhancement modernizes the way text messages are sent and received, helping eliminate many of the frustrations people have experienced with traditional text messaging, especially when communicating between Android and iPhone devices.
With RCS, customers can enjoy benefits including:
Sharper, higher-quality photos and videos
More reliable group conversations
Improved messaging between Android and iPhone users
Better delivery over Wi-Fi or cellular data
Modern messaging features such as typing indicators and read receipts across all device types
Enhanced security through encrypted conversations, where supported
For years, text messaging has relied on technology originally developed in the early 1990s. While smartphones have evolved dramatically, the underlying SMS standard has remained largely unchanged, often resulting in compressed media, limited functionality, and inconsistent experiences across devices.
This upgrade replaces that aging technology with a faster, richer, and more reliable communication experience.
“People don’t think about the technology behind a text message until something doesn’t work quite right,” said Bruce Todd, CEO and General Manager of Strata Networks. “Whether it’s blurry photos, broken group messages, or conversations between different types of phones, this upgrade helps eliminate many of those frustrations while giving our customers the same modern messaging experience they’ve come to expect.”
The deployment also reinforces Strata’s commitment to ensuring rural communities have access to the same advanced wireless technologies available from the nation’s largest carriers.
RCS is now available and enabled automatically for Strata customers using compatible Android devices and iPhones running iOS 26 or later. Customers with questions or who would like to learn more can contact Strata Networks at (435) 622-5007.
