STRATA Networks is rolling out its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) wireless network, with plans to transition completely to VoLTE by the end of 2022. With VoLTE, customers will notice improved voice quality during mobile calls and will have the ability to make phone calls and access data simultaneously.
Traditionally, STRATA’s mobile calls have been transmitted over a circuit-switched network, and their LTE network has been used solely for accessing the internet. With VoLTE, voice service is treated like a data service wherein voice calls are transmitted in the same way as data. This eliminates the need for the legacy circuit-switching technology and will allow STRATA to utilize some of that wireless spectrum to make improvements to their network, including launching 5G here in the Basin.
New STRATA customers are already joining their VoLTE network, and the rollout for existing customers is anticipated to take place throughout the next several months with all STRATA customers moved to VoLTE before the end of 2022. There may be some manual steps required by current customers to complete this transition. In most cases, those steps will be as simple as enabling VoLTE within a phone’s settings and restarting your device once they have been activated on the VoLTE network. STRATA will send personal notifications to customers when their device has been upgraded and when any required action should be performed. If customers have questions about this communication, they are encouraged to contact (435) 622-5007.
This migration will coincide with the retirement of STRATA’s 3G CDMA network on December 31, 2022, which was announced in 2021 and will require all STRATA wireless customers to be using a VoLTE-compatible device and SIM card to continue receiving cellular phone service. Most STRATA customers are already using devices and SIM cards capable of delivering VoLTE and will be ready to take advantage of the benefits as the rollout continues. However, those remaining with incompatible equipment will need to visit a STRATA store at their earliest convenience to make the necessary updates to avoid disrupted service in the future.
